Performance Workshop, Julia Beardsley and Andrew Poppy, Chelsea Theatre (evaluation)
A selected documentation of an experimental performance piece at Chelsea workshop. The experiment was based around how personal agency changes as we wear new styled clothing. There is a lot of room for development with this workshop with the abstraction of self presentation; to experiment further with this, but also to look further into the story that relates to the persons personal life, commenting on the stereotypes.
Participating in these workshops can give the opportunity for more ideas to arise. This is the process taken throughout a lot of the practice, cantering around the 'performance of the everyday' and 'Art and Life.' The workshop setting created an atmospheric mood. As a person was being dressed, their personality and character would change; it's the clothing that creates the personality and character. It's as if they begin naked and vacant, then the character begins to emerge as the clothes are added.
